DFDS in Gothenburg has just been supplied with 20 new electric trucks from Volvo, ushering in a greener and more sustainable future!

Today, Volvo Trucks is delivering the first batch of their electric heavy truck fleet to DFDS in Gothenburg, Sweden. This order for 125 battery-electric trucks marks one of company’s biggest ever and some will be used on routes from the nearby assembly plant. With this notable transition towards sustainability, it is hoped that both companies are paving a greener future for transportation logistic solutions as well as emissions reduction goals.

In an effort to reach their sustainability target of a 100% fossil-free supply chain by 2040, Volvo Trucks and DFDS have joined forces on an innovative new initiative. Fourteen zero-exhaust emission trucks – charged using green electricity – will be deployed in the transport system between Gothenburg’s heavy truck factory and beyond. And what’s more; four extra electric vehicles include ecofriendly steel! According to Roger Alm, President at Volvo Trucks, this joint venture is paving the way towards “a world-class sustainable transport system” that they are proud to lead with partners like DFDS onboard.

As the world strives for a more sustainable future, DFDS is leading by example in their ambition to become carbon neutral by 2050. With its deployment of electric, zero-exhaust emission trucks, they not only hope to reduce emissions but also spark collaboration between energy providers and industry leaders like Volvo Trucks in order to bring about meaningful change. According to Niklas Andersson, Executive Vice President and Head of Logistics Division at DFDS: “The transition requires much more than financial investment – it needs collective effort from everyone involved”.

In an effort to reduce emissions and take strides towards a more sustainable future, Volvo Trucks has greatly expanded its all-electric truck offerings since 2019. With over 4,300 electric trucks having already been sold in 38 countries worldwide and six models currently available for series production, the company is ambitious – aiming to reach 50% of new sales being electric come 2030!
