RHA Calls for Industry Support Ahead of the Chancellor’s Budget

Richard Smith, Chief Executive of the Road Haulage Association (RHA), is urging all haulage, coach, and van operators to take immediate action by contacting their MPs ahead of the Chancellor’s Budget on 30 October. With the Chancellor preparing to outline her fiscal plans, the RHA is calling on industry stakeholders to ensure the vital concerns of the transport sector are heard at this critical time.

Smith highlights the importance of continued lobbying efforts, stating that while progress has been made, it is crucial to maintain momentum in influencing Government policies that directly impact the industry. The RHA is particularly concerned about the potential for new tax burdens on businesses already facing significant economic pressures.

“We need MPs to understand the reality of the challenges our businesses are facing. The upcoming Budget presents an opportunity for the Government to recognise these pressures and take action to support the sector,” says Smith.

To boost economic growth and support businesses in the sector, the RHA has outlined key priorities:

Maintaining the freeze on fuel duty to keep operational costs manageable.

Introducing full expensing for leased vehicles and assets to encourage further investment.

Increasing investment in road infrastructure, which is essential for the smooth operation of logistics and transport services.

The RHA has made it easy for operators to make their voices heard by offering an online tool that allows them to quickly contact their MPs and convey these key messages. Smith encourages everyone in the sector to take just a minute to ensure the concerns of haulage, coach, and van operators are represented in the upcoming Budget discussions.

The tool can be accessed via the RHA website, providing a simple way to engage with MPs and make sure the transport sector’s voice is amplified during this crucial period.
