Next lines up £300m logistics expansion in West Yorkshire
Next plc is planning a major £300m expansion of its logistics operations in West Yorkshire, as it looks to stay ahead of rising online demand.
The retailer has secured planning consent for a new 1.2 million sq ft warehouse, known as E4, at its South Elmsall site. The addition will significantly extend a campus that has become central to Next’s UK distribution network, and which is already running close to capacity despite recent upgrades.
Construction is expected to begin towards the end of the decade, with the facility operational in the early 2030s. Once complete, it will increase overall capacity at the site by around 50%, giving the business headroom to support further growth in e-commerce.
The investment forms part of a broader push to strengthen logistics infrastructure, with Next focusing on automation and efficiency as well as scale. As delivery expectations tighten, the ability to move and process stock quickly is becoming a defining factor for retailers. For West Yorkshire, the scheme is another boost to its credentials as a logistics hub, building on strong transport links and an established industrial base that continues to attract large-scale distribution projects
