UK’s largest order for Volvo FH Aero units secured

UK’s largest Volvo FH Aero order placed

Maritime Transport has placed an order for 150 new Volvo FH Aero 6×2 tractor units equipped with I-Save technology. The company has already received the first 20 units, which are now operational across its 41 depots. These new additions complement an existing fleet of 525 Volvo FH units with I-Save, all part of Maritime’s commitment to improving fuel efficiency as a key aspect of its environmental strategy.

Paul Heyhoe, Maritime Transport’s Fleet Director, commented: “Our enduring partnership with Volvo Trucks is central to our strategy of owning and operating the cleanest, most sustainable full-load supply chain in the UK. We are dedicated to investing in cutting-edge technology to ensure our fleet is as clean and efficient as possible. Therefore, when the new FH Aero was announced, we acted swiftly to secure this substantial order.

“Furthermore, we will be integrating several battery-electric vehicles from Volvo Trucks into our fleet in the first quarter of 2025. This represents a crucial milestone in our decarbonisation efforts and a significant step towards a more sustainable UK freight industry. We are confident in the FH Aero’s potential and future success.”

Supplied by Abdi Ali, National Key Account Manager at Volvo Trucks UK & Ireland, these trucks feature Euro-6 compliant engines with turbo compound technology, which enhances fuel efficiency by capturing and reusing excess energy from the exhaust system via an additional turbine after the turbocharger.

Inside, the Globetrotter cabs offer heated and ventilated suspended seats, a leather steering wheel with neck tilt adjustment, a 33-litre fridge/freezer, microwave, dual armrests, and two bottle holders. The trucks also come equipped with the Volvo media package, and the FH Aero includes integrated navigation.

Safety features include forward collision warning with advanced emergency braking, lane departure warning, side collision avoidance, and driver alert support. To enhance visibility, the trucks are fitted with rearview main, wide-angle, and nearside passenger corner cameras, alongside rain-sensing wipers and automatic LED headlights. The new FH Aero units will operate around the clock, covering approximately 160,000 km annually.
