Clearview Intelligence enhances road safety in Milton Keynes with 4,000 new SolarLite studs for safer, year-round travel

Clearview Intelligence is pleased to announce that more than 4,000 SolarLite solar powered pathway studs will be installed across Milton Keynes to support safer walking and cycling helping the city deliver on its Net Zero and active travel ambitions.

Over the next few months, the city of Milton Keynes is set to benefit from a major upgrade to its traffic-free walking and cycling network as Clearview’s SolarLite Path studs are installed along key sections of paths linking bus stops and transport hubs. The improved lighting will enhance visibility and safety and encourage year-round active travel.

This investment is funded through Milton Keynes’ Bus Service Improvement Plan (BSIP), a government-backed programme designed to make public transport more reliable, accessible and inclusive. By improving the lighting along walking and cycling routes that link to transport hubs, the SolarLite studs directly support BSIP’s aim of safer, well connected, multimodal journeys.

The solar powered studs will be installed in 40 carefully selected locations by Milton Keynes City Council. These sites have been recognised as areas where enhanced lighting would deliver the greatest benefit to residents, not a blanket rollout across every traffic free route in Milton Keynes.

SolarLite Path studs deliver a sustainable solution. Powered entirely off-grid, each stud harnesses daylight through its integrated solar panel and automatically illuminates at dusk. With up to 20 nights of stored energy, the studs deliver reliable, long-lasting illumination without the energy consumption or maintenance demands of traditional lighting.

The low-level, directional lighting design also eliminates upward light spill, protecting nocturnal wildlife and preserving the natural character of the city’s green corridors.

Designed specifically for shared-use paths, the SolarLite Path stud provides soft, consistent illumination that helps people feel safer and more confident when travelling in low-light conditions. Milton Keynes’ decision to adopt solar powered pathway studs is a significant step toward a transport environment that is safer, greener and smarter all year round.
