Last week, a major electrical wholesaler was fined £472,815 at City of London Court by the DVSA. Following a weight check one of their 7,500kg vehicles, it was found to be 74% overweight. The truck was carrying a load of electrical cable weighing almost 13,000kg.
The fine represents a graduated fixed penalty and was means tested. Further costs for the operator included;
- A victim surcharge of £2,000
- Costs of 315
This further highlights the punishments available to operators who continue to flout the law. An overloaded vehicle can have a serious effect on the handling and braking of the vehicle.
