Chinese Ports Resume Supply Flow – Surge In Demand Anticipated
Chinese Ports Resume Supply Flow – Surge In Demand Anticipated
Following weeks of protracted Covid 19 lockdowns, the major Chinese ports have resumed operations. Although some ports have been operating throughout the lockdowns, they have been operating at reduced capacity owing to restrictions on local supply chains.
Although things are forecast to return to normal by October, it will take some time to release bottlenecks. As of mid-May, are large queue of backed up vessels were stranded in the harbours.
The Port of Shanghai is the worlds busiest in terms of container throughput and accounts for roughly 60% of UK Container imports.
Undoubtedly this will impact the UK container haulage market, albeit considering sailing times from China. This could dramatically reduce UK haulage capacity from the beginning of August.
